Along with the use of vim comes a very massive learning curve - the likes of which I will surmise is larger than any other editor out there. All of the deficiencies you run into, can be wrapped in a plugin to extend the functionality of vim - if you really want to.įurthermore, to describe vim as terrible with regard to any given functionality is disingenuous IMHO. The very fact that this is even possible is just a testament to vim's age and design. You are actually saying, send this entire stream of data to an external command (which in this case is xxd - a hexdumper) and return it back to vim. It appears, however, that you have already made up your mind and are coming up with further arbitrary examples with which you are unable to wrap you head around.īTW, vim is not a hex editor in technicality. I was simply trying to provide some insight into the regex power of vim so as to enable you. The intention was not convince you in any way whatsoever.
